Welcome to Cichero,

The agricultural background of the ligurian mainland is still strong and present nowadays even if a huge diaspora has led to massive depopulation of the area. Here brave farmers still cultivate the land and look after beautiful farm animals racing against the ever growing oppression of multi national companies with their unfair competition and enormous budgets.

The Protagonists

“Cows roam free on the prairies protected by the mountainous environment of the Ramaceto mountain, eating what the ungenerous land offers them and growing them free from industrial feed”

—Dutch in the mountain

“Everything here is uncomfortable to internationalisation, from the old traditional cow bells to the unstandardised language in use in the area, the result it's something unique and needs to be looked after.”

—"Buscî"

“The result of this hard work is dairy products of the highest quality, a unique achievement that no corporation could even dream to achieve. This might not be the most convenient way for a farmer to succeed but it is definitively the only way to preserve tradition and ethical craftmanship for himself and his animals.”

—Formaggio cicherin

The Ramaceto mountain

And its peculiar shape allows for maritime winds to bring precious enriched water to the valley constantly, allowing fresh herbs and plants to grow in its prairies and for the farm animal to enjoy, improving their wellbeing.

The Villagrande

This village and its nearby church are representative of a millenary tradition of farming and good relationship with Nature. Only those who fought for food and shelter can teach us on how to understand and respect the land.
